Professional Web Design in 2008
So how was it for you?
As a business owner, it can be healthy to look back at the year from both a positive and negative viewpoint. Learning from your mistakes and seeing what can be improved is a great way to improve your business and correct anything which might be going astray or needs attention. It can also give you a clear head and focus your energies come the New Year! So here is our review of 2008.
Positives
- Launched 15 new websites (with December to finish)
- We now have over 50 valued clients…
- … in 4 countries: USA, Canada, UK and Australia
- Our excellent newsletter system—Market 2 All—was upgraded in December…
- …and 10 clients now use and love it!

- Successfully relocated offices across North America without losing a customer
- Accepted as a 2010 Winter Olympics contractor in Vancouver

- Incorporated from “Paul Mycroft + Company” to become “Paul Mycroft Design Ltd”
- Have 196 subscribers to our email newsletter
- Explored new social media channels: Facebook Business, LinkedIn, Twitter, SEOmoz, WeCanDo.Biz
- Successfully upgraded our accounts to QuickBooks Pro
- Grossed our highest year since inception in 2002
- Welcomed a new addition to our family: Zoe Larsen
Not-so Positives
- Fire destroyed our new office, one month after moving in (we DID back up)
- Newsletter went from monthly to bi-monthly due to time constraints
- Switching to QuickBooks was a challenge (an accountant and bookkeeper helped)
- Dealing with multiple currencies is tricky (but can be good at the same time)
Thoughts for 2009
- Employ a part-time web design superstar
- Launch Paul Mycroft Design website v3
- Launch Market 2 All website for our excellent email marketing system
- Implement a post-project follow-up system with our clients to find out how a project went and what we can do to support them
- Explore more social media/SEO opportunities
- Pay more attention to the performance of our own website
- Be more involved in local community organizations
- Burn our backups to DVD twice a year
Hope these give you some ideas to help improve your web design business. Happy New Year!
